James Gordon Bennett was a notorious playboy at the turn of the last century. He once set fire to some money that was causing a nasty bulge in his pocket - hence the phrase "money to burn"! He also introduced polo to the USA and was famous for his exploits in airplanes, yachts and parties.The expletive "Gordon Bennet!!" probably comes from people opening newspapers and exclaiming "Not that ***** Gordon Bennet again!!" This picture is just another example of how twisted I am getting in my older age.
