Me at Work
Born - well, work it out from the photo! - many years ago, in Nigeria where my Dad was working, I travelled all over Britain before settling in Nottingham with my wife Gillian. We have two reasonably grown up children and a dog called Oscar who is anything but.In 1971 I started teaching - Science. Big mistake? After 22 years and two nervous breakdowns, my body decided it had had enough, and I had to quit teaching. I then went to a couple of Life classes and discovered I could draw a bit. My purchase of a set of Derwent Artist Crayons in 1996 then set me on my new career path.  I have no formal artistic qualifications, so you will just have to judge my work on its merits. I'm happy with that!

I have successfully completed too many commissions to count, including commissions in USA, Switzerland and Denmark. I stood at craft fairs throughout 1997, and have exhibited in many local competitions. In 1998 I attended many Dog Agility Shows in the Midlands, sponsoring some classes and being asked to draw lots of dogs. I have had my line drawings of agility dogs published by "Clean Run" magazine in the USA, and have sold some as club logos to Switzerland. In 1999 I met Nancy Furstinger of NY State, and she was kind enough to choose a completely unknown artist to illustrate two of her books.  In 2000 I started giving workshops and talks on coloured pencil techniques. I am available for talks and workshops within about 100 miles of Nottingham, England. I have had a stall at the Patchings Art Festival each year since 2000, and have been well received there. In 2001, I founded the UK Coloured Pencil Society, which now has over 450 members worldwide. This has led to a lot of work, and articles in several magazines, including a workshop sponsored by four major pencil manufacturers held at Sudbury Hall, Derbyshire, advertised in Artists and Illustrators magazine, June 2002. I have recently had success in National Competitions, of the UKCPS and in the Artist/Leisure Painter competition, where my coloured pencil work has done well against work in all media. Mostly though, I spend my days in my new loft conversion studio, shown above, with Oscar. Until I start sharpening pencils, then he leaves as he hates the noise!

My work tends to be quite graphic, colourful and I hope with a quirky sense of humour. I tend not to do subtle - though I can if needed! I do want my work to mean something and not just be a pretty picture, but it is not often that I achieve this. The works where I do are special to me - even if they don't sell well!
