I enjoy the colour possibilities offered by flowers - who wouldn't! But I am not a Botanical artist, I don't try to portray the flower or whatever accurately at the expense of everything else. OK, I know all the Botanical artists are shouting at me now, because they do of course consider design elements, but I always feel that these are secondary to accuracy. For me, the picture is the thing, flowers have to be recognizable, but design and communication are more important.
Much of my work is to do with difference, and also the relationship between words and images. Hence some of the subject matter and titles in this section. Basically I try to bring an artists eye to a love of puns! But most of my flower pictures celebrate something I probably love even more - Colour! Even when I tried to do some pictures of bees to sell at the British Beekeepers Association Convention, colour was the first thing that hit the paper! And it worked - I sold loads!
